The variable speed angle grinder is a versatile tool that is present in every metal shop. There are some grinders that can turn at extremely high rpm's but this is only ideal for cutting. This high speed is not always the optimum level of performance that is need when using a grinder.
With a tool that has variable speeds it can function at, the versatility of the tool increases. Polishing and sanding are mainly for finishing work of a metal's surface. This is when a slower speed is needed. If the speed is too fast, the finish can be adversely effected. This can be seen when an angle grinder is fitted with a polishing pad.
